This beach is two miles of white sand and stunning. The snorkeling here is excellent. Swimming and snorkeling are usually good due to the protected sandy bottom pools in the reef. Surfing and windsurfing are very popular in the winter months. The most calm time of year is the summer months. The coastline view couldn't be better and this is a great beach to take in the sunset.
A lot of visitors frequent this beach and it can become a bit full, but there is always enough room to set up your own beach haven. There are a variety of beautiful shells to be found and even more beautiful fish in the pools.
There are no facilities or lifeguards, but you can take a five minute walk down the beach to Haena Beach Park and you will find restrooms, showers and electricity to charge your cell phone ,even though you won't get any reception on this more remote part of the North Shore. Tunnels is near the end of highway 560 on Kauai's North Shore. It is easily found on any tourist map. Maps are available at pretty much every stop on the island.
The North Shore of Kauai is tropical and famous for its spectacular scenery including the Napali Coast and Mount Makana, also known as "Bali Hai," the famous view in "South Pacific." Visitor accommodations also are varied and memorable and include upscale resorts, moderate-priced condominiums and bed and breakfasts. There is one important thing to remember when visiting Tunnels Beach. Do Not leave your personal belongings and money in your car or in the trunk. This beach is known for rental car theft and the parking area is out of view from the mainstream. This is still one of the best spots on the North shore and shouldn't be missed.
